Choline chloride is an organic substance with chemical formula C5H14ClNO, white hygroscopic crystals, tasteless, with fishy odour. Melting point 305°C. 10% aqueous solution pH5-6, unstable in alkaline solution. It is soluble in water and ethanol, insoluble in ether, petroleum ether, benzene and carbon disulfide. It is used for the treatment of fatty liver and cirrhosis. It is also used as feed additives for poultry and livestock, which can stimulate the ovaries to lay more eggs and babies and increase the weight of poultry and fish.
