β-Alanine
Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid; it is the only naturally occurring beta-amino acid. In nature, it can exist in free state in the root nodules of legumes, in tea leaves, brain hydrolysates of mammals, and in tobacco leaves and smoke. It usually works with histidine to produce carnosine, which is stored in our skeletal muscles. Carnosine can effectively reduce lactic acid accumulation in muscles during exercise. As a substrate for carnosine, numerous studies have shown that supplementation with beta-alanine can improve athletic performance, especially during high-intensity exercise.
